Chemotherapy Nurses
Chemotherapy nurses are specialists within cancer treatment and work closely with oncologists and pharmacists to provide patients with chemotherapeutic agents, support and ongoing care throughout their treatment process. Those who work within this profession have extensive knowledge of oncology/ haematology disease, as well as the skills to safely administer drugs, infusions and provide solutions for any side effects. Their roles and responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Administering chemotherapy treatment for patients.
- Organising referrals for patients to other units or specialists.
- Coordinating the general care of patients.
- Provide support and be understanding of the patient’s needs.
- Manage patient symptoms and any side effects they experience due to treatment.
- Keep up to date medical records on patient progress.
