Palliative Care Nurses
Those who work within palliative care provide essential support and care for those who have a terminal illness or are in the last months or years of their lives. Palliative care is a support network that is made up of an array of different specialists across many medical fields. This type of care integrates the wishes and needs of the patient, as well as those of their family and friends, to provide the most dignified end of life experience possible. For nurses working in this profession, their roles and responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Identifying the individual needs of the patient and their family.
- Liaise with relevant specialists in regard to final treatments.
- Visit their home or preferred place of residence to carry out care responsibilities.
- Provide end of life planning for their family and loved ones.
- Support the patient in any way possible during their final days.
